Past, Passions, Purpose.
I am Luke Pamer, living son of God reborn through Christ Jesus. Period. No ifs, ands, or buts. No prefixes, no nicknames. Simply, Luke Pamer.
December 5th 1993. A young couple sits at a coffee stand discussing how their days went in beautiful portuguese. They have been together for almost 3 months now. They talk about the weather and whether or not they feel the same about each other. They playfully argue back and forth as they stair into each others dark brown eyes glimmering from the sunlight. They stand up and slowly walk back to the mans house as their sun-kissed hands intertwine. They slowly make their way back home. They sit down and discuss their deeper thoughts about life. They begin to kiss and slowly make their way to the bed. As they wake up the brazilian sun is shining through their window warming their skin as the light creeps across the room. The man tells the girl that he needs to go on a business trip for 3 weeks and starts to pack his bag. The woman begs him to come back to bed and to skip the trip. He insists that he needs to go, kisses her one last time and is off towards the airport. She watches as he walks away still starry eyed from the night with her man. 4 weeks pass but no sign of her lover returning. She starts to have morning sickness and the thoughts of being pregnant plagues her mind. Soon 4 weeks turns into 2 months and 2 turns to 4. The lump in her belly begins to become bigger and she can no longer hide it. She starts to become fearful for this child. She already has a younger child and cant support two on what she gets paid. The thoughts of adoption enter her mind. She cant give up now. As much as it pains her she needs to give up this child. August comes around sooner than she thinks. She starts to have 1 minute contractions and knows that its time for this child to enter into the world. For 21 days she raised this child. For 21 days she held tight to her small child. A family agreed to take the child under their wing. They were from america. They were white. The adoption battle was long and hard but 4 months later the families new son arrived in america. The child's brothers asked what his name was. As my father held me with tears in his eyes he whispered: Luke…Luke Pamer.
While the details of how my birth mother and father came to know each other may be fictional, my adoption story is not. Growing up i have always had a passion for creative art. Whether that is through writing, drawing, videos, or photos i have always had a special place in my heart for creativity. The other thing i have always had a passion for is self-image among boys and men. According to popular beliefs in psychology, it is said that fathers are a boys first heros and boys gain their own self image through their father. Based upon how a child is raised can directly affect how a boy or man views himself later in life. I have heard heart breaking stories about how boys and men are now in drug addictions because they thought thats what a real man was. I have walked with friends through sexual addictions while they believed that having sex and living a lustful lifestyle is what makes a man. I have seen friends go to the brink of despair so that they may be considered a man. My passion is to rewrite the social norms of what it means to be a man.
Through teaching and conversing about what it means to be a man my ultimate goal is to preach the gospel. I believe that Christ has given all mean a perfect example of what it means to be a man. I believe that if we are to grasp what it means to be like christ, we will ultimately grasp true masculinity. My purpose is to preach the gospel. I am hoping i am able to do the through my creative talents.

ReplyDelete1. Glad you have chosen to be a part of this course and only hope that it helps you gain a better understanding in the art of human communication. 2. You tell a detailed story from the account of your birth; you artfully and skillfully use words to your advantage to really bring the reader into a different world. If you have not considered some sort of creative story-telling, I'd recommend it!
