Interview

My interview went well. Except for that fact that I completely forgot to tell the interviewer that I went to High School. I jumped right into how I was part of a design internship. I spent little to no time pumping myself up in the beginning, which resulted in a short interview. But overall after that point my interview went well. Thankfully I was able to control voice and talking speed and had no problem with stumbling over my words. A few questions were surprising. The interviewer asked me an illegal question pertaining to my sexual orientation. I redirected the question and asked if he meant if my sexual preferences or believes will hinder my ability to work in a group, to which I said no. Another question that I was stumped on was "What is one thing that is surprising about you that we wont find on a resume". This took me a second to answer and so I asked if we could come back to the question at a later time. A few more questions were asked and I still wasn’t able to answer the question. The interview finished a few minutes later and finally at the end I was able to revisit the question when the interviewer asked if I had any questions for him. The interview ended, we shook hands, and I left. The interviewer was pleased with the interview. He stated that at first he was disappointed that I couldn't think of an answer to the earlier question but was impressed that I came back and answered it at the end. Overall I need to remember in an actual interview to really sell myself in the beginning. The interviewer said that those first 5 minutes are when you need to pull out all the stops and really promote yourselves. He said that I need to convince them that I will be the best thing for that company. I’m not fully sure if I agree with that. I prefer to come from complete honesty and be willing to say where my shortcomings are. Overall I think the interview went really well! I learned a lot from it and I am excited to see where this simulation will help me later when I actually go for a job.

3 Questions for my interview Monday.

1. Tell me About Yourself My name is Luke Pamer and I am a Freelance Visual Director. My passion for this field grew over the last year and a half as I participated in a year long internship with Overlake Christian Church. Through this internship I learned a lot about my self and working with others on a team. 2. Can you tell me more about that point? Yes. I worked on two teams at the church: The creative design team and the youth ministry team. The internship started out with 5 interns and doubled over the course of the year. Our team was close knit. The majority of interns, excluding me, worked in close working space. We had weekly meeting to encourage healthy intern relations and team building. I worked with a smaller design team, though. My team consisted of 4 other church employees and i was their intern specifically assigned to them. I quickly learned about their strengths and my own as well as their weaknesses and my own. We helped each other in the areas we were weak in and came together in the areas we were strong on in to produce something amazing. 3. What are our greatest Strengths and Weaknesses? My biggest weakness is the inability to say no to projects. While this may look good to an employer the drawback includes myself not being able to complete tasks i am given due to having too many tasks on my plate. I realized this one day when i promised a task to 5 separate branches of the church which were all, coincidently, due the same day. The outcome was the incompletion of all projects because i couldnt realize i was too stressed to say no to projects. My biggest strength is being a maximizer. In a nutshell, i dont like to do projects that will result in being mediocre. I prefer to make good ideas/projects in great ideas/projects. I continually strive to do my best in a project if i see the potential it could be. This came in the form of my team, during christmas, had an idea but wasnt able to put it to use. I was able to come in a help us create something that would really resonate with the congregation as a whole. This was one of my favorite art pieces and still hold value in it today.

Touching Taboos

According to the book there is no concrete definition for Touching Taboos. With that being said we can crete our own definitions based upon the two words put together. Touching is obviously the physical contact between two people. Taboos are the prohibited actions one could choose from. It would be safe to say that touching taboos are the prohibited actions one could choose to create physical contact between two people. Examples in the book include not touching strangers, harmful touches, startling touches, interruption touches and moving others. Some specific examples would include hitting, biting or slapping a person as an example of harmful touches or trying to give a massage to someone much like George Bush did to Chancellor Merkel. Even recently in my own life i have experienced some touching taboos. I remember about a year ago i was at a church camp with my youth group. There was a new guy in our group and he was on the Touchy-feely side of things. Even in the little amount of time he knew me, he was already trying to give me back and neck massages. Typically i am not against these. In fact, i am actually a huge fan of massages as long as i know you. But when i have no clue who you are or where you came from i become a little bit freaked out. Its deeply concerning that some people would be that open with a stranger with such an intimate act.
